Your Day at Lipton’s Seat
A slow, scenic day in the tea country, with most of the journey by tuk tuk and only short, gentle walks. It’s ideal for all ages, and a welcome rest day after hiking Ella Rock or Little Adam’s Peak.
7:00 am: Pickup from Hide Ella
Settle into your private tuk tuk for an open-air ride through the hill country, past tea estates and villages. Your driver-guide will stop whenever you’d like a photo.
8:30 am: Lipton’s Seat
Arrive at the viewpoint where Scottish tea baron Sir Thomas Lipton surveyed his plantations in the 19th century. On a clear day, you can see across several of Sri Lanka’s provinces. Take your time: pose with the bronze statue of Sir Thomas, then enjoy a cup of tea at the small kiosk on the summit.
10:30 am: Dambatenne Tea Factory
Ride down through the Dambatenne Tea Estate to one of the oldest tea factories in the area. See how fresh leaves are withered, rolled, dried and sorted into Ceylon tea, then taste a fresh cup and browse the tea shop.
12:00 pm: Lunch[Picnic lunch among the tea bushes / lunch in a nearby village, check]
1:00 pm: Tea plantation stroll and tea plucking
An easy stroll with your guide along the estate paths. Join the tea pluckers and try picking the leaves yourself by hand. It’s harder than it looks! It’s also a chance to ask them about their work and life on the estate. Walk as much or as little as you like.
2:30 pm: Scenic ride back
Sit back and enjoy the views as you ride back through the hills.
3:30 pm: Back at Hide Ella
Arrive with plenty of time to relax by the pool or in the sauna before dinner.
